Abstract

Hasanah, Suci Nurmala, 2022. Students’ Perception of English Club
Extracurricular to Support Their Speaking Skills at SMKN 1 Ponorogo. Thesis,

Speaking is a crucial skill in gaining knowledge of English. Speaking
is the capability to display linguistic information in actual communication, where
students can use those skills in day-by-day activities. Perception that comes from
other humans is how the person captures information from our environment
consciously by means of the way humans see themselves.

The purpose of this research is to find out Students' Perception of
English Club Extracurricular crucial in supporting toenhance speaking skills at
SMKN 1 Ponorogo. English Club Extracurricular is a place for a group of people
who have the same high interest in English, the school formed an English Club
Extracurricular to improve students' speaking skills and provide additional time to
learn English because they do not have extra time in regular classes.

This research applied qualitative descriptive. This study took a
population of students from the English Club Extracurricular class. The number of
samples in this study were members of the English Club Extracurricular. They
consists of 16 students. The data collection procedures used observation and
interview techniques (open ended questionnaire) and documentation. To analyze it,
a qualitative data analysis development framework is used.
The results showed that 81.25% of students are strongly agree and
18.7% of students agree that English club extracurricular is very important in
improving their speaking skills, 75% strongly agree and 25% agree that English
club helps them speak well. 62.5% of students enjoy practicing speaking at the
English club Extracurricular. Then,62.5% strongly agree and 37.5% agree that
English club can encourage motivation and is a suitable medium for practicing
speaking. From the results of the research above, it can be concluded that the
students gave a positive perception, the students agreed that the English Club
Extracurricular was important and could help them to support their speaking skill.
