This year, many mass media speak about Jokowi’s speech when he was in APEC CEO Forum in Beijing China. His speech video that was uploaded on youtube exceeded high record. Therefore, the researcher prefers to analyze it by semantic features and roles analysis.
This study is aimed to describe the semantic features and roles of Jokowi’s text speech. This research conducted in order to know: (1) How is the semantic features of the text and (2) How is the semantic roles of the text. This research was library research. Data were collected by documentation. The source of data was taken from website that was copied on November, 24th 2014, and the secondary data were everything resources which related to the research. Then, data were analyzed by content analysis. First, in analyzing semantic features, the researcher used her own features: animate, human, male, female, and adult to analyze the pronouns that were in the sentences of Jokowi’s text speech. Second, in analyzing semantic roles, the researcher followed George Yule’s way in analyzing sentences, and the roles of word are agent, theme, experiencer, instrument, location, source, and goal.
The research findings showed that: (1) in semantic features analysis, there were 130 pronouns in the text speech. The results showed: +animate is 116 pronouns (17.85 %), −animate is 14 pronouns (2.15 %), +human is 116 pronouns (17.85 %), −human is 14 pronouns (2.15 %), +male is 116 pronouns (17.85 %), −male is 14 pronouns (2.15 %), +female is 108 pronouns (16.62 %), −female is 22 pronouns (3.39 %), +adult is 74 pronouns (11.39 %), and –adult is 56 pronouns (8.62 %). (2) in semantic roles analysis, there were 149 nouns that had taken roles and had been analyzed. The researcher found: 53 agent (35.57 %), 57 theme (38.26 %), 5 experiencer (3.36 %), 1 instrument (0.67 %), 21 location (14.09 %), 3 source (2.01 %), and 9 goal (6.21 %).
Finally, the researcher concludes that in semantic features analysis, the biggest result were +animate, +human, and +male. Then, in semantic roles, the biggest result were theme and agent. It means that Jokowi is a creator of revolusion, because he has been being a new president of Indonesia who delivers this speech. The result of ‘theme’ showed that Jokowi invited the CEOs member economies to invest in Indonesia.
