Abstract
Writing is one of the productive skills which is important for communication and other activities in English education. In teaching writing, the teacher should use an appropriate technique and media to improve the students’ achievement. Tree Diagram and Scrapbook are the technique and media that can be used in teaching-learning writing. It helps the students to organize their idea in easing of the writing process.
The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was a significant difference between students’ who are taught by Tree Diagram technique using Scrapbook Media and those who are not taught Tree Diagram Technique using Scrapbook Media at seventh grade of SMPN 1 Babadan Ponorogo in academic year 2019/2020.
This research applied a quantitative approach and used the quasi-experimental design. This research used two classes as a group and control group. The population was taken from the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Babadan Ponorogo. The numbers of the sample were 58 students of the experimental group and control group. The procedure of data collection was test. In analyzing it, the researcher used t-test to find out the significant difference between students’ who are taught by Tree Diagram technique using Scrapbook Media and those who are not taught Tree Diagram Technique using Scrapbook Media.
The result of the research showed that the value of t0 was 8.203 with df 56 that is 2.01(t-test > t-table). Therefore, Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. It can be concluded that there was a significant difference score in writing skill for the students who are taught by Tree Diagram Technique using Scrapbook Media. In other words, the Tree Diagram Technique using Scrapbook Media is effective to improve the students’ writing skill at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Babadan Ponorogo in academic year 2019/2020.
