English is the first foreign language usually taught to children at a very early stage of schooling. The primary aim of teaching English in the early years of schooling is to motivate young learners to be ready and have self-confident in learning English at higher levels of education. The teacher of young learners in OHIO English Course applied the strategies to make easier in conducting and managing the teaching and learning process. The objective of this thesis are describing (1) How do the application of the teacher’s strategies in teaching Vocabulary (2) How is students’ response on the teacher’s strategies in teaching Vocabulary (3) What are the advantages thought the teacher’s strategies in teaching Vocabulary for EYL.
This research employed descriptive qualitative approach and designed was descriptive. The study was conducted at EYL class of OHIO English Course. The data of research were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. The researcher analyzed the data by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing verification conclusion.
This result showed that (1) the teacher’s strategies implemented in teaching vocabulary to young learners in EYL class of OHIO English Course are such as; listen and repeat strategy, listen and do strategy, song and games strategy, question and answer strategy and outdoor learning strategy. Those strategies were applied by teacher because they are suitable to be applied in EYL class of OHIO English Course. (2) The students’ response on the teacher’s strategies in teaching vocabulary are: the students enjoys the English lesson. She tried to make her students understand easily by using many techniques in teaching and learning process. The selection techniques were adjusted to the level, time and theme. The teacher used simple vocabularies that were appropriate with the theme. (3) The advantages of those strategies on the students are; the students become more active and give more attention, the students are easier to memorizing the vocabulary that was given by the teacher, and get the interested with the teaching and learning process, the students are more interested joining the teaching and learning process. So, the students do not get bored and sleepy in the learning process. The teacher is easier to conduct and manage the teaching and learning process.
