Vocational High Schools (SMK) as prospective labor producers need to pay attention to the advantages of their graduates, both comparative and competitive advantages. To produce competitive graduates in their fields, principals need to have an entrepreneurial-based leadership strategy. Principal of SMK Darul Fikri Kauman Ponorogo is one of the school principals who is implementing entrepreneurial-based leadership strategies.
This study aims to: (1) criticize the leadership strategies of entrepreneurship-based principals to improve student independence at SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman Ponorogo; (2) discuss the challenges faced by the Head of SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman Ponorogo in implementing entrepreneurial-based leadership strategies to increase student independence. (3) find out the profile of economic independence of Ponorogo students at SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman
Qualitative research methods, data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction techniques, data display and conclution drawing/verification.
This study produces findings: (1) Entrepreneurship-based leadership strategies implemented by the head of the SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman Ponorogo include: the cultivation of entrepreneurial spirit, Sustainable Business Renewal strategies, ATM (Observe Modified Modification) strategies, school marketing strategies, application of timely behavior, the application of appropriate behavior promises, fulfilling school social responsibilities, and carrying out educational innovations. Educational innovations made by the head of the SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman Ponorogo, among others: facility innovation and administrative innovation. (2) The challenges faced by the headmaster of SMK Darul Fikri Bringin Kauman Ponorogo in implementing their leadership strategy include: teachers' unequal understanding of the importance of innovation, diverse emotional conditions of teachers that affect the spirit of teacher performance, and the availability of funds that are not continuous. In facing these challenges the policy taken is sometimes to be firm with teachers and employees, sometimes to be soft especially regarding guidance to students. (3) economic independence of SMK Darul Fikri students, among others; while still in school, students are able to manage school-owned businesses, such as motorcycle repair shops, laundrays, refill drinking water, and school cooperatives. Darul Fikri Vocational School graduates are independent in working, independent in establishing a business, and independent in managing a privately owned business
