Abstract

Translation is the process of transferring the meaning, ideas, or messages
ofthe text from one language to another. The processes are primarily related to the
meaning, ideas, or message accuracy, clarity, and naturalness of the translation.
There are many techniques used in translation. The translation technique is the result
of choices made by translators or the embodiment of strategies in overcoming
problems at the micro level which can be seen by comparing the translated text with
the original text. In translation there are three aspects that are used in assessing a
translation result, namely accuracy, acceptability and readability aspects.
The purposes of this study are to analysis the translation techniques used by
translators in translating Charlotte's Web books by E.B White from English to
Indonesian version translated by Dina Begum used theory from Molina and Albir. In
addition the accuracy level of the Charlotte's Web books by E.B White from English
to Indonesian version translatedby Dina Begum is also analyzed used theory from
Mangatur Nababan.
This research applied descriptive qualitative. The primary data in this research
was Charlotte's Web books translated by Dina Begum with a total of 166 data. In this
study, researchers used documentation. Meanwhile, content analysis method was
used to analyze the data using several step namely formulating research problems,
conducting literature studies, determining units of observation and units of analysis,
determining samples, determining variables, making categorizations and coding
guidelines, collecting data, coding data (data coding), processing data, presenting
data, and finally compiling reports on results study.
The results showed that they are 13 types translation techniques used in
translating Charlotte Web books translated by Dina Begum namely, 1 sentence was
used adaptation technique, amplification technique was use to translate 16 sentences,
meanwhile 5 sentences translated used pure borrowing, and 5 sentences used
naturalized borrowing, estabililish equivalent was used to translate 15 sentences, 5
sentences translated used the generalization, literal translation is used to translate 47
sentences, 13 sentences are translated using the modulation, then particularization
was used to translate 1 sentence, furthermore 12 sentences are translate used
reduction technique, then substitution technique are used to translate 5 sentences, 35
sentences translated using transposition technique, and 4 sentences are translated
using variation translation. Mostly the data were translated (86,14%) accuratelly.
According the findings above, it can be summed up that Charlotte’s Web is
appropriate text to be an English teaching material especially for English university
who are concern on translation subject.
