In learning English (writing and reading) in high school, students find various obstacles during the learning process. Among them are difficulty understanding the material and lack of vocabulary. This is due to the different personalities of students. In general, personality is divided into two, namely extrovert and introvert. From these personalities, it can affect student learning outcomes. Various studies related to student personality have been carried out, but not many have focused on comparing the influence of personality on student learning outcomes.
The purpose of this study is to find out (1) how is reading and writing achievement of the extrovert students; (2) how is reading and writing achievement of the introvert students; (3) is there any significant difference achievement between extrovert and introvert students on reading and writing to the ninth grade at MTs Hasan Munadi Badegan.
This study employed a quantitative methodology and was causal-comparative in nature. The total number of students was 53 and the researcher used the entire sample. In collecting the data, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the respondents in order to determine extrovert and introvert students, which consisted of 25 questions developed from indicators of extrovert and introvert and the questions adopted from taken from the book entitled "Tes Bakat dan Kepribadian" by Sutan Surya Hariwijaya. Then, researchers calculated the students' reading and writing proficiency scores based on information from the midterm exam results. To evaluate the data, the researcher utilized the Independent Sample T-test in SPSS 22.00. The outcome of an independent sample t-test showed that there was no statistically significant difference, with a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.422 (0.422>0.05). The alternative hypothesis was disproved while the null hypothesis was accepted.
The result show that (1) out of 27 extrovert students, the highest score is 82 and the lowest score is 60. Who got a score of 8 there were 5 students, there were 14 students who got a score of 7 and there were 8 students who got a score of 6. (2) From 26 introvert students, the highest score is 83 and the lowest score is 60. Who got a score of 8 there were 6 students, there were 14 students who got a score of 7 and there were 6 students who got a score of 6. (3) There is a significant difference between extroverted students and introverted students in learning English. Of the 53 students studied, there is a very small difference between the two variables. However, it does not rule out the possibility that if more variables are studied, the difference will also be greater.
