Reading is a process of constructing meaning through dynamic interaction between the reader's pre-existing knowledge, information implied from written words, and the context of the reading situation. Readers will construct the meaning of the text by trying to relate it to what readers already know about the word. Reading is needed to broaden horizons and understand foreign cultures. Reading is certainly an important activity to improve language knowledge. Paired Reading (PR) method is one of the learning models in teaching reading that emphasizes students' independence in doing their assignments. Students are also required to share knowledge or give corrections to what has been done by their friends or partners so that take and give will run well in classroom learning
The aims of this research are to describe 1) The implementation of paired reading method at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. 2) The obstacles faced by the English teachers in the implementation of paired teading method at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. 3) The teacher's solution to solve the obstacles faced by the English teacher in the implementation of paired reading method at SMA muhamadiyah 1 Ponorogo.
This research used descriptive qualitative as a research design approach. When collecting data, the researcher used several qualitative data collection techniques. They are observation, interviews, and documentation. In this study, the data were collected by observation, interviews and documentaries. In observation technique, the researcher makes observations in the classroom by observing the interactions between teachers and students, meanwhile, in technique the researcher conducted interviews with teachers to get information about reading method that the teacher used when teaching in class, and in documentation technique the data were taken through photos taken during the learning process. To verify the data, researchers used triangulation.
The results of this research are that researcher can find that 1) The teachers used the paired reading method when teaching reading in class with the implementation that can be understood by students. 2) the difficulties experienced by teachers are students who become too active and There are students who want to stand out in English lessons so that their partners become passive. 3) The teacher's solution to resolving the obstacles they faced is to discipline students and place limits on students who are considered to be too active in class and then give other students the opportunity to express their opinions on reading learning which helps teachers and students in the teaching and learning process.
