English is a foreign language and the language of technology used all over the world. If someone wants to speak in English, then that person needs to understand some vocabulary is one of the milestones in English. The researcher found that the students' vocabulary was very low which caused the students during the learning process to have difficulty understanding English lessons. Due to the lack of vocabulary owned by students, therefore, researchers used the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model, where students are placed in learning groups of 5-6 students who have different abilities, gender, ethnicity or race.
The aims of this study is any significant difference score in vocabulary for the students who are taught by using Teams Games Tournament and who are not taught by using Teams Games Tournament at the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2022/2023.
The research applied quantitative approach and used a quasi-experimental research design where one group was the experimental class and one group was the control class. The population was taken from the tenth grade sudents of SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2022/2023. The number of the sample in this research were 60 students experimental group and control group. The procedure of data collection were test and documentation. To analysis it, used t-test formula to know whether there was significant difference on using by Teams Games Tournament and who are not taught using by Teams Games Tournament at the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2022/2023.
The results of the research show that the post-test value of the experimental class was 72.87, and the post-test value of the control class was 69.67. Both classes of pre-test and post-test values obtain normality and homogeneity data whose value (p) < significant (ɑ = 0.05). The calculation results of the hypothesis test using a t-test with a significant level of 0.05 show that the calculated value (1.971) > ttable (1.671). So, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, that there was significant different score in vocabulary for the students who are taught by using Teams Games Tournamnet. So, from the computation above it can be conclude that there is a significant difference between the students’ who are taught using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) who are not taught with the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method. It is become important for the teachers because this strategy is effective and makes students happy to follow English learning in class, have fun, and make the students are motivated in learning vocabulary.
