Abstract

Reading comprehension is correlated with the reader's ability to understand the meaning in the text. In practice, some language learners experience difficulties in mastering reading comprehension, as happened at SMKN 1 Ponorogo. That problem caused by the student’s low interest in learning process that makes them bored in learning especially in reading using conventional teaching learning strategies and media. Thus, the researcher tried to apply RAP ( Read, Ask, Put) strategy and Webtoon media. The purpose of RAP is to aid reading comprehension by helping students to find the most important information in a given reading selection. While Webtoon or also known as web cartoon is an image that has a story or is commonly called a comic and it published using the internet network.
This research is about the effectiveness of using RAP (Read, Ask, Put) strategy and Webtoon Media to enhance student’s reading comprehension at the tenth grade students at SMKN 1 Ponorogo. The study tried to answer this problem: “Do the students who are taught by RAP strategy and Webtoon media get better score in reading comprehension than those who are not?”.
This research used quasi experimental research design which had two groups that consist experimental and control group. The population of this research was students of the tenth grade students at SMKN 1 Ponorogo. The sampling technique used simple random sampling technique. The data were collected through test and analyzed by using a formula of t-test to know the significant difference in reading comprehension test achievment between students who were taught by applying RAP (Read, Ask, Put) strategy using Webtoon Media and those who were not.
After the treatment, the students’ scores were improved. It can be seen from the result of SPSS computation. The null hypothesis was rejected. It means that RAP (Read, Ask, Put) strategy and Webtoon Media is effective to teach reading comprehension on the tenth grader at SMKN 1 Ponorogo. Thus, it can be stated that these strategy and media were considered effective to teach reading comprehension on narrative text material for students in Senior High School.
