Abstract

Figure of speech is one of the important material studies that cannot be abandoned. In studying the figures of speech is not only necessary to know the characteristic, but also to understand of parsing the meaning contained in an expression. Moreover, in the resemblance of figures of speech there is a similarity in the function of object so student need to careful in identifying and applying these figures of speech. Thus, it is important to learn the resemblance of figures of speech to make the students skill increase so that the student can understand the text of figurative and help them to produce good products of writing.
The aims of this research are to analyse the types of resemblance of figures of speech used in the novel The Wicked King and to describe the dominant type of resemblance of figures of speech that used in the novel The Wicked King.
This research used library research with the research approach was descriptive qualitative research. The researcher collected data from the novel entitled The Wicked King by Holly Black (2019) as primary data source. The number of chapters in the novel that are used as primary data sources consist of 10 chapters, there are chapter 1 to chapter 10. To collect the data, the researcher used documentation techniques. The data analysed by doing 3 steps, there are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The result of this research showed that there are six types of resemblance of figures of speech in the novel The Wicked King, those are simile, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, personification, and kenning. After process calculating of the data, it conducted total number of 167 expressions consist of 32 data of simile (19,2%), 44 data of metaphor (26,3%), 26 data of metonymy (15,5%), 28 data of synecdoche (16,7%), 23 data of personification (13,8%), and 14 data of kenning (8,5%). As a result, metaphor is the dominant type of resemblance of figures of speech most appear in the novel The Wicked King with the number of 44 data with a percentage of 26,3%.
