One of the most crucial English skills for non-native speakers to develop is speaking. Learning how to speak is a crucial component of learning a second or foreign language, and proficiency is determined by one's capacity to carry on a conversation in that languageas.
The purpose of the research is to find out the effectiveness of using reading poetry strategies in teaching English to improve the students’ pronunciation at the eleventh grade students of SMA KA Basyariah Madiun.
This research applied a quantitative research design with quasi- experimental research. The population of this research were eleventh-grade students of SMA KA Basyariyah Madiun. The sample of this research was XI IPS 1 as experimental class and XI IPS 2 as control class. The sample were 59 students, which were chosen through simple random sampling. The procedures of data collection were test. To analyze it , used t-test formula.
The result of the t-test calculation showed that the value of t-test was higher than the t-table. The value of t-test was 3.426, while the value of t- table was 2.01 (3.426 > 2.01). Thus, it can be concluded that the Ha is accepted and the Ho is rejected.
Considering the data analysis previously, the use reading poetry strategies are effective for teaching pronunciation at the eleventh-grade of SMA KA Basyariyah Madiun. It become important to increase the students’ pronunciation not only by the teacher, but also by the students themselves in order to improve the students’ pronunciation.
