Abstract

IFROCHA, SITA FADILA. 2022. Lifelong Learning Values Reflected in Andrea Hirata’s
Novel The Rainbow Troops. Thesis, English Education Department, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Institute of Islamic Studies Ponorogo. Advisor: Dr. Dhinuk Puspita Kirana, M.Pd.

Learning is defined as the potential development of human being through supported process continuously and stimulates the human to obtain knowledge, values, and skill which are then applied confidently, creatively, and actively in all aspects and surroundings. Lifelong Learning can be influenced by some factors and to be lifelong learners, they must have some characteristics shown in the discussions. The purpose of this research was to identify the value of lifelong learning reflected in Andrea Hirata’s novel The Rainbow Troops.
The research was conducted using library research. In this research, the researcher used “The Rainbow Troops” novel by Andrea Hirata which was translated by Angie Kilbane as the main resource of data. The researcher also uses books and journals about related research as the references to support the main source of data. Documentation was used to collect the data. In data analysis, the researcher select the content, then compare different pieces and the last is summarize the selected pieces into useful information.
The result of the research showed that Characteristics of lifelong learning values reflected in this novel are: Having a good mindset, making a connection, being flexible and adaptive, always learn something, full of curiosity, a lot of studying method, become a source of knowledge, being diligent and persevering, doing the assignment, always want to sit in the front, want additional tasks, and not easily tired and discouraged. Factors influencing lifelong learning values portrayed in this novel are divided into internal factors like physical aspects and psychological aspects. The external factors are: socio-environmental factors, non socio-environmental factors, and family factors.
