Abstract

The total number of words required to communicate ideas and express the speaker's meaning is known as vocabulary. Vocabulary can include more than one word. Reading, as a source of knowledge and enjoyment, is one of the most important academic skills required by students. Reading is also, arguably, the most important skill a student must learn in order to succeed in school and in life. Reading comprehension will improve as vocabulary mastery improves. Therefore, it appears that the validity of the effect of vocabulary mastery on reading comprehension should be investigated.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Vocabulary Mastery And Students Reading Comprehension Toward English Lesson Book 4th Edition At Al-Mawaddah Islamic Girl Boarding School Ponorogo. Research problem is there a relationship between Vocabulary Mastery And Students Reading Comprehension Toward English Lesson Book 4th Edition At Al-Mawaddah Islamic Girl Boarding School Ponorogo?
This study uses a quantitative approach and uses a correlational design. The sample of this study were students of class XI Vocational School of Design. The data collection procedure were using a questionnaire and a test. To analyze the data, the researcher used the Pearson product moment correlation formula with bivariate correlation to determine whether there was a relationship between Vocabulary Mastery And Students Reading Comprehension Toward English Lesson Book 4th Edition At Al-Mawaddah Islamic Girl Boarding School Ponorogo.
Based on data analysis, it was found that Vocabulary Mastery (X) and Reading Comprehension (Y) have medium level correlations. The results showed that the correlation is coefficient between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension was 0.571. The significance value (2-tailed) was 0.002. Significance test if Sig 0.002 then the alternative hypothesis Ha is accepted. This means that there is a relationship between Vocabulary Mastery (X) and Reading Comprehension (Y). Consequently, the researcher draw the conclusion from the analysis's findings that there is a correlation between vocabulary mastery and students reading comprehension toward English lesson 4th edition at Al-Mawaddah Boarding School.
