Key Words:photo andteaching speaking

In accordance with the purpose of teaching English, speaking is the most important skill in language learning, because speaking ability is useful to communicate in daily life. Also in the process of learning and teaching speaking skills are required especially to express opinions, and tell an event or story.Photo is one of the most well known a media in teaching. Photo is an effective visual tool because it can visualize something that will be explained in more concrete and realistic.
The problem of the thesis were (1).Why does the teacher choose photo media in teaching speaking to the eight grade students of Genius English Course?
(2). What are the contribution of using photo media in teaching speaking to the eight grade students of Genius English Course?

This study was qualitative approach which used a photos media. Methods of collecting data were observation and in depth interview. The data were all information relating to the photo media of the eight grade students of Genius English Course. Data analysis used in this research was interactive analysis, data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion.

The reason of English teacher choice the photo media are photo media can be integration between the materials and media, integration between the syllabi, and the facilities are available in the class; and second, the photo media uses in the teaching speaking process is related to the materials for each based competence.

The contributions of using photo media are the learning time required can be shortened because most of the media requires only a short time to deliver the messages and the content of lessons in considerable can be absorbed by students. In other words, the photo media can save time, cost and effort.
