Reading is one of the learning activities that cannot be separated from learning English at every level of education. Reading activity is not just looking at the entire content of the writing, but using thinking skills to understand the content of the reading. This is then referred to as students' reading comprehension skills. But one of the problems is that students are less interested in reading lessons. Therefore researcher apply DRTA strategy to improve students' reading comprehension skills
The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is a significant difference between students who are taught using DRTA strategies and who are not taught by using the DRTA strategies at SMPN 1 Pulung.
The objective of this research was to examine whether there is a significant effect of DRTA Strategies on students’ Reading Comprehension at the 8th grade of SMPN 1 Pulung in Academic Year 2021/2022. This research applied quantitative approach and used the quasi experimental design. This research, used two clasess as experimental group and control group. The population were taken from the Eight Grade Students of SMP SMPN 1 Pulung in Academic Year 2021/2022. The population of this research is 188 students of eight-grade, and the number of sample in this research were 30 students of experimental group (8E) and 31 students of control group (8D) with a total sample 61 students.
The result of the research shows that the value of significance column 2 tailed is 0.000 and it was lower than 5% (0,05) from confidence level of 95%. It means that there was a statistical difference between the experimental and control group. There are 2 hypothesis in this research, the first is null hypothesis (Ho) formulated “There is no significance effect of using DRTA strategy toward students reading comprehension in descriptive text at eight grade of SMPN 1 Pulung Ponorogo” was rejected. While the alternative hypothesis (Ha) formulated “There is a significances effect of using DRTA strategy toward students reading comprehension in descriptive text at eight grade of SMPN 1 Pulung Ponorogo” was accepted.
So, from the computation above it can be concluded that there is a significant different between students who are taught by using DRTA Strategies and students who aren’t taught by using DRTA Strategies at the Eight Grade Students of SMPN 1 Pulung in Academic Year 2021/2022.
