Abstract

English is one of the general subjects that every student must follow in Vocational High School. Learning English for students must be based on the analysis of learning needs to benefit from learning English according to their needs. This study analyzes the market for learning English among students majoring in Computer and Network Engineering.
Researchers conducted research to describe: (1) Fulfill learners' needs analysis by analysis of deficiency, strategy, and means analysis. (2) Obstacles in fulfilling the needs of students according to the analysis of deficiencies, analysis of strategies, and means analysis.
This research includes field research using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. And the techniques chosen in this data analysis are data reduction, data presentation, and data leveraging to conclude the collected data. The researcher visited the research location and obtained data from the respondents, which included: (1) English teachers and (2) Computer and Network Engineering students in research to analyze the needs of students using the ESP (English Scientific Purposes) method with a Pedagogic Need Analysis approach and focusing on three variables, namely Deficiency Analysis, Strategy Analysis, and Means Analysis.
From the research results, it can be concluded as follows: (1) Fulfill learners' needs analysis by analysis of deficiency, strategy, and means analysis a) deficiency analysis English is an important language, and students' ability in English is considered to be lacking, students have various strategies learning depends on the comfort of each student. b) English analytical strategy is a compulsory subject in schools, the teacher's method of teaching is difficult for students to follow, the learning resources used by students vary apart from textbooks but also come from games, songs, films, the internet, and scientific journals. c) means analysis of school facilities is quite good, but it is necessary to add a language laboratory and additional collections of library books. (2) Obstacles in fulfilling the analysis of the needs of students according to the analysis of deficiencies, analysis of strategies, and means analysis. b) the analysis strategy of teacher teaching methods is felt by students to be boring and makes students' concentration disappear during English lessons. c) means analysis of school facilities cannot easily be fulfilled due to lack of funding for schools, the government should provide a solution to this problem, not only the government but the school, parents, and educational institutions must also take part in this.
