Grammar is an important aspect of the English language that is learned as basic knowledge and plays a significant role in understanding it. Grammar is made up of two parts: form and rules. In grammar students learn many materials like as tenses, modals, verb, preposition, adjective, and other items. There are many aspects of English grammar that are discussed, one of which is comparison degree. The modifying of an adjective or adverb to provide different levels of quality, quantity, or relation is known as comparative degree. To make sentence well, students must also understand tenses well. Poster media is media which are used in teaching and learning process with words and/or pictures on it. Poster media is an entertaining approach for many students to learn new vocabulary and grammar.
The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not poster media is effective in teaching comparative degree of adjective on eight students of SMP N 1 Kauman In The Academic Year 2021/2022..
This research applied quantitative approach and used the quasi experimental design. The population of this research was 240 students who taken from the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kauman Ponorogo in the academic year 2021/2022. The number of the sample in this research were 28 students of control class and 30 students of experimental class. The procedure of data collection was test. To analysis it, t-test formula was applied to know whether there was significance different between the students who are taught using poster media and the students who are not being taught using poster media.
The result showed the mean pretest score in the control class was 45.35, and the mean posttest score in the control class was 81.96. The mean of pretest score in the experimental class was 54,50, and the mean of posttest score in the experimental class was 88.83. Based on the findings, it is clear that the mean score of the experimental class was higher than the mean score of the control class. The result of t-test (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than the level of significance 0.05, so that the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted while the null hypothesis (Hₒ) was rejected. Thus, from the computation above it can be concluded that poster media was effective in teaching comparative degree of adjective on eight students of SMP N 1 Kauman In The Academic Year 2021/2022. Teachers could use various teaching techniques and teaching media, such as poster media, that are attractive, enjoyable, and meaningful for teaching and learning process.
