The novel is the most common literary work and easy to encounter from the past
till now. Novels can be the media to entertainment, education, and knowledge for
students. As the media novel can attract student attention in learning and understanding
the lesson. By reading the novel the researcher can get many benefits like Educational
values. Educational values are related to those activities which are good, useful, and
valuable from the point of view of education.
The purpose of this research is: 1.) to find the kind of educational values and
various educational values in novel The Old Man and The Sea. 2.) to describe the present
kinds of educational values and various educational values in novel The Old Man and
The Sea. This research used 18 educational values in Indonesian Law.
In this research, the researcher used library research by descriptive qualitative
method and used content analysis to analyze the data. The data of this research are
educational values in dialogue by the character and the gestures transmitted by the writer
in writing. The data source in this research used original novel and translation novel “The
Old Man and The Sea”, many books, journals, and other research is relevant with the
material. The researcher used a documentation technique to collect the data.
The results of this research showed that there are 8 kinds of educational values
they are: Bravery, Honesty, Hard Work, Creative, Appreciating Achievement, Sociality,
Independent, Respect, Trustworthiness, Kind Hearted, Curiosity, Loyalty. Then, among
the 8 educational values found in the novel, the various educational values in novel are:
the values of moral education, the values of social education, the values of culture
education.
