Speaking is a productive skill that consists of producing systematic verbal utterances to convey meaning. However, most of the students have many problems in speaking. By using observe and remember game students are supposed to get more interested in improving speaking skills because this enjoying game is how it provides clear speaking instructions and encourages the students to remember the words easily. One of these methods is to observe and remember the game, the researcher tried to investigate the use of observe and remember a game as one of the methods to help the students improve teaching speaking.
The purpose of this research was to find out whether the students who are taught using observe and remember game achieve better in speaking skill than who are taught using the traditional method. The research focus of this study is especially on teaching speaking of observe and remember game using explanation text at eleventh grade.
This research was conducted in MA Ma’arifBalong in Academic Year 2020/2021. It applied the quasi-experimental design of quantitative research. The population was eleventh-grade students of MA Ma’arifBalong and the sampling of this research was cluster random sampling. The sample was class XI-2 as experimental class and XI-1 as control class. Besides that, consisted of 52 students. This research used tests and documents in collecting data. T-test used SPSS version 26 was applied to analyze the data.
The research finding shows the use of observe and remember the game was effective to improve speaking skills. The resulting research showed that the mean score post-test from the experimental class (67,29) was higher than the control class (58,04). It had been found that comparing between the students’ scores who were taught using observe and remember the game and those who were not was 4,870. This score was higher than the t-table which was 0,2732 at a level of significance of 5% with df= 50. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Moreover, observe and remember the game was effective in teaching speaking because it had different significance scores in teaching speaking between the students who were taught by using observe and remember the game and who were not on the eleventh-grade students at MA Ma’arifBalong in the academic year 2020/2021.
This study will use implementation and positive effect on the use of the observe and remember game using explanation text. The researcher using appropriate media to support the student teaching and learning process. The recommendation was interested in applying using observe and remember game using other skills besides speaking, it can be applied in reading, vocabulary, listening, writing to improve their skills by observe and remember games.
