Deixis is words or phrases that indicate the words, phrases, or expressions that have been used or will be given. A word can be called as deixis if the reference changes. This research has two objectives, they are to identify types of deixis and find out dominant type of deixis in Incredibles 2 Movie.
This research was library research and applied descriptive qualitative as research design. The data were taken from the script of Incredibles 2 Movie. The researcher used documentation as the technique of data collection. To analyze the data, this research used content analysis.
The result of the research showed that five types of deixis found in Incredibles 2 movie they were person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, social deixis and discourse deixis. Person deixis were 1376 data (46,99%), time deixis were 1183 data (40,40%), place deixis were 107 data (3,65%), social deixis were 162 data (5,53%), discourse deixis were 100 data (3,41%). Totally it was 2928 data of deixis in Incredibles 2 movie. In this research, person deixis was found as dominant types. The dominant deictic word of person deixis was first person singular “I”. The word “I” totally occurred 371 times (12,67%).
It can be concluded that in Incredibles 2 movie, there are five types of deixis and the dominant types of deixis is person deixis. Understanding deixis is important for the reader or listener to know the meaning of utterance according to whom, when, where, social status and the discourse of utterance. It can help the readers to get the message or content of utterance clearly.
