Abstract
Marriage or marriage is al-mitha>q al-ghalid} (a strong bond) which unites two human children, a boy and a girl, in a commitment to build a household. Through marriage a household will begin, in which various rights and obligations will be inherent in the journey of a family. Among other things, a meaning and purpose of a marriage bond. Especially if the household manager is a young couple who, when viewed from their age, are still in their teens (teenagers) in other words, they are not even 20 years old.
This study intends to explore the meaning and purpose of marriage for families of young couples in Arjosari District, Pacitan Regency. These problems were discussed using a qualitative approach with the type of field study research that occurred in Arjosari District with research subjects who were young couples who were recorded to be married in 2015-2020 at KUA Arjosari District, Pacitan Regency.
From the results of the study it was found that: (1) The meaning of marriage from the understanding of the young couple are: Binding between men and women through akaq ijab and qabul with the pillars and conditions of marriage, To become husband and wife who give the right to get along (sexual intercourse), Forming a family, Continuing descendants, Not violating the norms and customs and the legality of religious elements and applicable laws. (2) families of young couples understand that marriage aims to form a family by exercising their respective rights and obligations and continuing their offspring.
