Reading is an active process which consists of recognition and comprehension skill. Reading is an important activity in life which one can update the people knowledge. It also becomes a tool for the success of students learning. By applying reading, the students can get many inspiration, idea, information, and also can improve their understanding in reading effectively and efficiently. To know the contents of a book, we need an ability to read. Because by reading a book or text, it can give many vocabularies and learn many sentence models.“ About-Point ” Strategy is a tool to enhance comprehension for silent reading. It teaches the students to identify what the content information is “About” and the “Point” of the subject matter. That strategy can help the students become true readers and improve the students reading comprehension. And it used to help the students identify both the content and the point from the information of the text.

The objective of this research is to find out whether the students who are taught by using “ About-Point ” strategy get better score than those who are not taught by using “ About-Point ” strategy.
This research applied quantitative method and used quasi experimental design. The population of this research is the seventh grade students were 135 students. The researcher took two classes as a sample in this research. They were 32 students of experimental class and 32 students of control class. In this research, the sample technique is used random sampling. The technique of data collection is used test and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test and SPSS application to know the effectiveness of “About-Point” strategy on students reading comprehension at SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo.
The result of the research show that the mean score of posttest from the experiment class was ( 37,81) it was lowest than control class was (43,21). It also had been found that comparison between the students score who are taught by using “ About-Point ” strategy and those who are not was -499. This score was lowest than ttable (2,01) in the level significant 5%, with db=62 that was categorize into db=64. It is mean that Ha was rejected and Ho was accepted. It can be conclude that “ About-Point ” strategy was not effective on teaching reading comprehension, because there is no better score between the students who are taught by using “ About-Point ” strategy and those who are not taught by using “ About-Point ” strategy on the students reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Mlarak Ponorogo in Academic Year 2019/2020.
