Learning media is a tool that makes things easier activities, especially learning activities in the process of distributing information learning from teachers to students. Learning media as a tool communication between teachers and students can be in the form of printed media or hardware technology. The presence of learning media is able to encourage intellectual and emotional abilities of students.
During the covid-19 pandemic situation, technology development gives effect to every aspect of human life. Technology development in the modern digital era causes much growth up of media social. WhatsApp (WA) is one of the most popular social media which is used by Indonesian people. Almost all human use WhatsApp as daily social media. It makes easy interaction among people through messaging, pictures, audio, document, and the unique one of WhatsApp is a group discussion.
The purposes of this study were to find out the ways to implement and the problems faced by the students and the teachers in implementing WhatsApp Group as learning media at the XIth Grade of SMA Bakti Ponorogo during this pandemic covid-19. The problems of this thesis are (1) How do the English teacher implement the WhatsApp Group as a learning media in teaching English at the XIth Grade of SMA Bakti Ponorogo?; (2) What are the problems faced by the teachers and the students in implementing WhatsApp Group as a learning media?
This research was conducted by using a qualitative approach. The research design was descriptive qualitative research design. In this research instead used two classes (XIth Science grade and XIth Social grade). The researcher applied an interview, observation and documentation to get the data. To analyzed the data, the researcher used a triangulation method.
The researcher concludes that there are three steps to implement the WhatsApp Group as learning media includes pre-teaching, whilst-teaching and post-teaching. During the use of WhatsApp Group at the pandemic covid-19, researcher also found some problems faced during implementing WhatsApp Group as a learning media during this pandemic covid-19.
